ABOUT TEA
Tea has a fascinating and tumultuous history and it is undeniable that drinking tea and storytelling are inextricable. Tea was first mentioned in Chinese literature in 2,700 BC, and its discovery, is attributed to Emperor Shennong, the father of agriculture. According to ancient legend, Shennong decided to relax under a Camellia tree on an Autumnal afternoon. After boiling some water, dried leaves from the tree floated down into the cup sparking the first ever infusion of the tea leaf.
Our Tea
Our tea infusions are Free-From
Caffeine - all our herbal infusions are caffeine-free. Caffeine artificially stimulates and dehydrates the body, unbalancing the guest;
Chemicals – our partnering growers and ethnobotanist do not believe in treating their herbs with any pesticides, herbicides, and in some cases even fertilisers;
Flavouring – our herbal infusions do not have any added flavourings (artificial or natural);
Fumigation – we do not believe in fumigation as the process destroys the aroma and flavour, and could cover the herb in carcinogenic soot;
Lactose – there is no need for any dairy or dairy substitutes with any of our infusions (they are compatible with the vegan and vegetarian diet);
Oils – no oils are added (natural or synthetic); and
Sugars – our infusions have no added sugars or sweeteners, any sweet or honey tasting notes experienced come directly from the herbs themselves.
Our Responsibilities
We offer only ethically responsible brands and we source all our teas using fair trade principles ensuring that all tea gardens we source from have good working conditions, fair wages and support the local community in some way. All our packaging is recyclable or biodegradable and where possible. All our herbal infusions are chemical, pesticide, herbicide, artificial fertiliser, hormone, and flavouring oil free.
Our herbal infusions are all ethically and sustainably sourced, not just in terms of the actual herbs grown, but also the economic benefits for foragers and farming families, in addition to culture grounded in thousands of years of history and tradition.
We support the ecosystem by promoting the values of honesty, transparency and consistency to deliver the purest and most nourishing herbal infusions.
Loose leaf or teabags which contain no microplastics (plant cellulose or otherwise) and no epichlorohydrin (chlorine).
Our tea caddies and coffee pod containers can be recycled infinitely.
